Martin Aitchison has had a long and successful career as an illustrator for children -
most notably for The Eagle magazine, between 1952 and 1963 and for Ladybird Books, from
1963 until 1990.

The BBC Television programme 'See Hear' recently featured an interview with Martin Aitchison, in which he talks about his life, his work during the war, and illustrating for The Eagle and Ladybird Books. Transmission was on Wednesday 15th October, 2008, BBC2, 1pm, and it is now available on the BBC iPlayer for one week only. (The interview with Martin is the 3rd item, after the football feature). The most recent exhibition of his work took place this July (2008) at Newby Hall, N. Yorkshire. This exhibition featured original artwork produced for Ladybird Books from the 60s to the 80s and was very well received.
